1 John 4:18 - What does meaning ?

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.

1 John 4:18 says that there is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. This verse is a powerful reminder about the transformative power of God’s love in our lives. The first part of the verse emphasizes that true love, especially the kind of love that comes from God, expels fear. When we experience and understand God's perfect love, fear—whether it's fear of judgment, fear of the future, or fear of rejection—is uprooted. We no longer live with a sense of dread because we know we are loved unconditionally. The second part highlights that fear often comes from an expectation of punishment. People fear what they don't understand or situations where they think they will be judged harshly. But God's love reassures us that we are forgiven and accepted. Living in fear, therefore, shows that we have not yet fully grasped or accepted this perfect love. As we grow in our awareness and acceptance of God’s love, fear diminishes, and we can live more freely and confidently. This verse invites us to reflect on the depth of God's love and encourages us to trust fully in it. It calls us to open our hearts and minds, allowing perfect love to transform our fears into peace and security.
